Excedrin and MakersPlace are teaming up to introduce Equal Bytes, a new artist accelerator program to recruit and onboard additional women creators to the NFT space and support the minting and sale of their first NFT.
More than 100 women new to the crypto and NFT space were accepted into the Equal Bytes program based on the many applications.
A minimum of 100 creators from the exhibit, chosen by a select group of Equal Bytes Curators, will receive a guaranteed bid of approximately $800 USD. On behalf of the Equal Bytes Curators, MakersPlace will place the initial bid on a minimum of 100 artworks to kick-start the auctions when they go live at 12:30PM PT, November 21. From there, collectors can place separate bids for a 24-hour period. If Equal Bytes Curators are outbid by collectors, MakersPlace will place additional bids on the Equal Bytes Curators’ behalf, on other artists they like.
The submission window will be open from October 12 - November 2.
If you’re a woman new to the crypto and NFT space, or have yet to sell your first NFT, you’re encouraged to apply. Please submit one piece of art that you wish to sell and provide details on your career as an artist and the headaches you have experienced as a woman creator in the digital space.
Accelerator participants will be revealed on November 14th. After the reveal, an online exhibit will open, showcasing all the artworks from the Accelerator participants. When the exhibit goes live, fans are invited to vote via “hearts” for their favorite artworks. The top ten creators that receive the most votes will additionally be invited to participate in the Featured Creators Program on MakersPlace at a later date. Fans that vote will be entered for a chance to win select NFTs from the exhibit.
The artworks showcased in the exhibit will go live for auction on November 21st. A minimum of 100 creators from the exhibit, chosen by a select group of Equal Bytes Curators, will receive a guaranteed bid of approximately $800 USD. On behalf of the Equal Bytes Curators, MakersPlace will place the initial bid on a minimum of 100 artworks to kick-start the auctions. From there, collectors can place separate bids for a 24-hour period. If Equal Bytes Curators are outbid by collectors, MakersPlace will place additional bids on the Equal Bytes Curators’ behalf, on other artists they like.
Hand-picked women Equal Bytes Curators will review all Equal Bytes applications and select up to 100 creators that will receive a guaranteed bid of approximately $800 USD when the auction goes live. The compensation of $800 will include their NFT bid and gas fee to upload their NFT art.

As the digital art and NFT space continue to grow and become an emerging platform for artists to sell their work, one pervasive issue remains - gender inequality. Research shows that 77% of NFT sales go to male creators1, and women make up less than 20% of the NFT market2, revealing that women are significantly outnumbered by their male counterparts in this space.
