For me, the biggest threat to humanity – aside from Climate Change – is that which comes from increasing polarization. The ability for us to see someone else’s point of view, to empathize, to think about the surrounding context always serves us better, yet more and more I see evidence to the contrary.
This is particularly true seeing the reaction to the growing field of AI, especially in respect of its use in an artistic context. Yet these tools can offer us new ways to imagine, think, and create.
These new techniques don’t exist outside of other techniques and practices but merge and become entangled with all that we’ve already learned and continue to learn as artists together with the yet unknown. They collide and coalesce into new branches and paths that we might journey down.
This series of works is a visual response to this idea: forms and objects created from the pre-existent and the never-was to inspire, provoke, and question what it means to be an artist in the age of Artificial Intelligence.

Brendan Dawes is a distinguished generative artist based in the UK. Known for his innovative use of data, machine learning, and code, Dawes has earned international acclaim and recognition, including being an alumni of the prestigious Lumen Prize and Aesthetica Art Prize. His body of work has been featured in numerous exhibitions worldwide, such as Big Bang Data (appearing in thirteen cities), three exhibitions at MoMA in New York, the Brighton Digital Festival, ArtFutura, and ZKM. His notable piece, Cinema Redux, was incorporated into MoMA's permanent collection in 2008.
Dawes has also made a significant impact in the evolving world of NFTs. His Genesis NFT, released on KnownOrigin, was sold within the hour to renowned collector WhaleShark. Subsequent to this, he released a collection on Nifty Gateway that sold out in under sixty seconds, demonstrating a high demand for his work. Dawes has also put forth his work on other platforms such as MakersPlace, Foundation, and SuperRare.
His contributions to the NFT space extend beyond creating; he was part of the curated show 'NTFism: No Fear in Trying' led by Kenny Schachter. Dawes' work has been featured in various prestigious auctions, including Sotheby’s Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale, The Burnt Auction – the first NFT sale offered by an auction house in France with Fauve Paris, and Generative Art and The Future, an exhibition in Shenzhen hosted by China’s largest auction house, Beijing Poly.
Dawes' remarkable career has included a multitude of solo and group shows, and his work has been widely published in various books and magazines. Some of his notable solo shows include "Moments Spent with Others" at Gazellio, London (2022), and "Somewhere Amongst The Trees" at Dog & Pony, Munich (2015). Among his publications are "CryptoArt Begins" (Rizzoli illustrati, 2022) and "The Age of Data" (Braun Publishing, 2021).
