While in the busiest, most time-critical stretch of my recent life, I broke my middle finger and tore ligaments, ending up in a half arm cast. With all the stresses of daily life as well as needing to be around hospitals during this crazy time was less than ideal. The whole experience is quite a story including lidocaine injections to numb my finger so it could be slid back into place straight and into a cast, only to be called back the next day to get a new cast where they had to crank my broken finger 90 degrees (without numbing this time) into a new position as it would heal correctly. Total fiasco, but I never complained because I understand sometimes life throws events at you to see how you react. I have taken a step back and have focused on what message is being sent to me. For one, I am slowing down in order to heal. Also, through this process appreciating and having gratitude that I normally have functional hands and a healthy body which is something able-bodied people often take for granted. The timing of this was too significant to be random and this art was created to honor the experience.
This art piece shows hand x-rays in a chaotic array of positions, just like I felt like during the break and realignment, as well as violent black material signifying the lidocaine injections that sent shockwaves of pain through my soul and pulsated in increasing intensity very similar to the animation.
