The works for the construction of the work began in 1163 and were completed in 1344: Notre Dame has been restored several times but many secrets have survived to the present day. The most famous legend is that of the devil's locks, according to which Satan in Persna would have made the locks and the decorated hinges of the main portal. The young blacksmith Biscornet, in fact, decided to give his soul to the evil one in exchange for help: it was too difficult to realize the works they had commissioned him, extremely difficult to the point of being so exhausting for their incredible size. On the day of the inauguration, in fact, exorcisms and holy water were needed to open the doors, while Biscornet died shortly thereafter.
