It is a bit too common for teenagers to think they know it all and do not need help for their parents—or anyone—for that matter. When I was a teen I had the same attitude. So in raising our own kids, my wife and I have made efforts to instill in them a spirit of humility as well as a hunger for wisdom. Such thinking led to the conversation of this comic, which has a quote of what I actually said to them.

Haha .. To rebel against the previous generation is natural and I think it is necessary as well.

Haha ... yes ... completely identify with this - humility and patience ... and the funniest part is as adults even when we say to young ones, we slip up quite often. But the way you created this - so funny yet so near home. Love it.

Arrogance of the youth is just a natural thing, they dont know yet how much sh1t can happen xD and its really a good compensator of the ignorance of age

Arrogance is indeed a fascinating topic and keeps popping up in my work as a subject, I think because so many people can identify with experiencing it in various ways.

It’s a sad tale. Too soon old, too late wise. Great reminder, Joe. I don’t know what wise person said the following, but I have always believed it is true. “The beginning of wisdom is to know that you do not know.”

Oh, I like that one too. Proverbs and Ecclesiastes is one of my favorite books on wisdom and there is always something amazing in there to unearth.

Excellent reflection from a father to a son. It is true, we are wise by age and experience but we must never lock ourselves in that attitude because we lose perspective. Teenagers also have a lot to say and come from different perspectives even much more valuable than ours. It is our duty to be flexible and accept that changes are inevitable.
As always, Joe puts us at a new point of reflection every week, fundamentally those of us who have been parents of teenagers.

Thanks so much. Having kids has certainly been the education of a lifetime and I am very grateful for all the lessons learned.
