Created the day of his passing. I was truly devastated when I heard the news. I had been a huge fan of Bourdain since the very first time I saw him on No Reservations. Although he was born in NYC he was also a fellow New Jersey native and proudly said so. However he conducted himself in a way that was a complete contradiction to the stereotype most people have of someone from New Jersey. We also both grew up listening to punk rock. I hardly ever put other creatives on a pedestal, I believe they are the same as everyone else just happen to be in the public eye, yet I felt like he was a kindred spirit. Due to my immense respect I really made a conscious effort to make this illustration one of my better ones. I also tried to use colors that would convey the pain he clearly was dealing with right beneath the surface.
Done on an iPad Pro using Adobe Illustrator Draw and an Apple Pen
