"The Quicksand Castle Of Aghadya"
3D Fractal Art by Spaced Painter 2015
Resolution 10240x7680

This 3D Fractal Art piece is a Spaced Painter Classic, one the very first fractal artworks I’ve ever created (2015) now finally out of the Spaced vault in all it’s full res glory. This Fantasy 3D Fractal Land still inspires me to this day as a magical place that I want to dive into and continue to explore as it shapeshifts through ETHernity.

A curious fact is that, despite the appearance of being 2D painted, this piece is actually a pure 3D Fractal of which mathematical code I’ve manipulated until the desired shapes were achieved and then the whole environment was coloured only through the projection of a lightmap that I’ve painstakingly adjusted over many hours of work until I felt the sense of change in my Vision was best manifested.

The theme of change and how it permeates the human condition is beautifully put into words by Jorge Luis Borges: "Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone." - As transient creatures we must live Today as if this ongoing present were forever, in the knowledge that our mortal individual existence is bound by the limitations of Form and Time.
Nevertheless, this limitation is what allows for Being itself, as without change occurring through the canvas of Time there would be no form and thus no material physical existence to be experienced.

"The only constant in life is change" indeed as per the Heraclitus maxim, as is That formless Self which observes and stays constant outside the permeable matrix of Time.
Ever changing within form as well as always permanent outside of it, That Is which goes by a thousand names. That Is Atman in the Hindu Vedic tradition. That Is what starts, ends and changes everything - That Is Your Self.

For the first time ever I am making the original HQ render of "The Quicksand Castle Of Aghadya" accessible and at the insanely high resolution of 10240x7680 which is perfect for high quality large printing (personal use only) - Available as single edition to one collector who will forever own a piece of Spaced Painter history.

Amazing picture. I believe that the most important feature of a fractal is to make it so it does not look like a fractal, and you did this excellently. Is it rendered in Mandelbulb3d? The geometry is unique, so fluid and otherworldly -- a great source of inspiration indeed!

Thanks so much, this was actually one of my very first fractals and to this day still gets such good feedback and amazes me how I managed to make it look like that :) absolutely all done within fractal software with no post work!

Amazing, one would not even think this is made of fractals!

Thanks so much Barabeke this piece took me a long time to complete as usual and I still can't believe how it appears to be painted as if out of a graphic novel :)

Amazing creation, really love the golden hues:) i agree that everything is ephemeral and prone to change, we are just riding the waves. In your case the sand waves:)

The Dune feel you have also commented on wasn't intentional but being one of my many inspirations over the years it's not surprising :)

Beautiful combination of organic structures and hard, rock like textures. Like the Castle wasn't so much built as eroded out of the sand over eons of time.
Other worldly and a render that makes you think it was hand painted!!
Kudos - very nice piece!

Thank you so much, love the erosion idea! :) Yes fractals never stop to amaze me, this is a very dear piece to me, I actually have a beautiful big print hanged in my home and it gets lots of compliments and a few people have been rather amused yet confused with the fact that it is actually a 3D environment created with mathematical fractal code instead of some sort of 2D painting :)

I love this one, would olve to fly in and explore that castle, find some ancient sage meditating at its core no doubt.

Do you have more of these organic looking ones? Some of the pillars almost look like bone structure.

Yes they're all different but many exhibit nature-like forms as fractals do :)

I love how this looks & I love the quote. "Nothing is built on stone..." interesting to think about. Some truth, actually, too since sand is just worn down or tiny bits of stone.

I love the columns created in the image. It really does look like a part of a castle :)

Thanks a lot for commenting! That's great to hear, it was hard work getting the fractal to look like this :)
Love your point on the sand being tiny bits of stone!

The most organic of your works, making it even more tangibly darker. But also more chill-able, I could hang in this nest 🐣
