"My Pen Slipped (Variation)" by Richard F. Yates
My pen didn't really slip. I'm just a liar. It's fun to lie. It's also fun to draw, and I often have no PLAN for my drawings, I just enjoy putting ink onto paper (or, in this case, reclaimed cardboard... I think this was originally a chunk of a cereal … (read more)
My pen didn't really slip. I'm just a liar. It's fun to lie. It's also fun to draw, and I often have no PLAN for my drawings, I just enjoy putting ink onto paper (or, in this case, reclaimed cardboard... I think this was originally a chunk of a cereal box...)
But let's do some analysis!
Clearly, this piece is about misappropriation of funds by persons in positions of power. As we can all clearly see, the squiggles represent the hard-working, "common" folks who are contributing to society by making and doing and producing. The right angles and crosses represent repression, and the eyeball is obviously those in power SEEING the workers' efforts and, sadly, discovering a means to exploit the masses. The blue color represents frustration and envy---ironically from both sides. The workers see the luxury of those in power and wish to share in that lifestyle, and the LORDS hovering over the masses are envious of the workers' energy and ability to actually CREATE instead of just taking.
Notice, of course, that all of this is on fire...
(Do you believe my interpretation? Remember what I said above?) And that's my analysis of this drawing, and I'm sticking by it!
[Materials involved: Ink (Sharpie and felt pen) on reclaimed cardboard with digital embellishments and colors. The original version of this piece was published in March of 2017 at The Primitive Entertainment Workshop. However, this is the first time THIS variation has ever been seen by humans or other entities (besides me...) Cool? Alright! Now, go make something better than this and tell me what YOURS means!!!]
