The elegant waterfalls of River Coupall, famously set against Buachaille Etive Mor, the Shepherd, are one of the most iconic of Glen Coe's views and a longtime favorite of mine. I fine-tuned my composition and aesthetic understanding of this location through years of experience photographing it, starting from my first visit in 2009.

Winter is the best season to photograph this scene, for me. In winter, the chances of a dusting of snow covering the Buachaille adding depth to the otherwise black rocks are higher, and there is enough water in the river for the waterfall’s splash to fill the negative space on the bottom of the frame. I have been waiting for years for the perfect dawn light combined with sparse clouds to add to the mood of serenity and peace this scene evoked in me.

In 2019, the stars aligned: on a beautiful, crispy March morning "The Shepherd’s Pools" was born!

WATERFALLS is a collection of ultra-high quality color landscape photographs offered in 12/12 edition.
