Why put a sketch as a unique edition? Because the sketch is the most private and unique part of the piece. The finished work is the artist's dialogue with the world. The preparatory sketch is a dialogue with himself. The sketch is the most private and rare part of the work, often invisible but where the true creative process is nestled. This is why I think that the sketches of a work are perfect as unique and rare pieces.
