Mariya Alipieva (Bulgaria, 1981) is a multidisciplinary artist working with sculpture, printing techniques, digital photography and video. After completing a two-year course with a degree in Animation at Art College Sofia (Bulgaria) she moved to Mallorca to study Artistic Ceramics at Design High School Palma de Mallorca. Furthermore, she holds a BA in Fine Arts and a Master Degree in Artistic Production and Research, both from University of Barcelona.
Her artistic production brings together elements of the human body or others that surround it to investigate how they are molded to adapt to the beauty canons imposed by society. In this way, she invites the public to reflect on acts, rituals and routines of everyday life. Her work has been part of exhibitions and Contemporary Art Fairs and printed publications in Spain, Italy, Germany, UK, US and South Korea. Currently, the piece "Daily Beauty Accumulation" is a finalist at Korean International Ceramic Biennale 2021, and it will be exhibited at Gyeonggi Museum of Contemporary Ceramic Art between October 1st and November 28th, 2021.
During her career stand out nominations for awards such as: Second International GIF Contest launched by Lamosa (Cuenca, 2021), Art seen in BCN’18 – 100 of the best works seen in Barcelona in 2018, Banc Sabadell Award, Arts Libris (Barcelona, 2018), Emilio Sdun Memorial, (Valencia, 2016), XI International Engraving Biennial Josep de Ribera (Xàtiva, 2011), V Sculpture Contest, Benito Ductile Foundry (Manlleu, 2011) and Rei En Jaume Awards (Calvià, 2009). Her work is also held in private collections and institutions, such as PATRIM University of Barcelona, CRAI Fine Arts Library in Barcelona or Polytechnic University of Valencia.
Alipieva is currently based in Barcelona.
