The bald singer

A great comedy that is in itself a great tragedy.

This play, which belongs to the literary current called Theatre of the Absurd, was premiered on May 11, 1950 at the Théâtre des Noctambules. The script was first published on September 4, 1952 by the College of Pataphysics.Since 1957 it has been performed continuously at the Théâtre de la Huchette, thus becoming one of the most performed plays.
In 1958, Ionesco explained that he originally intended to title his play The English Hour, but then opted for The Bald Singer "because no singer, bald or hairy, makes her appearance in it."
