The American bison is the state mammal of Wyoming and there are roughly 1000 wild bison living in Grand Teton National Park. They are the largest wild mammal in North America, and Male bison (bulls) weigh up to 2,000 lbs and stand 6ft tall! Bison are big and strong, but they can also run up to a speedy 35 miles per hour. In 1884, the bison population reached its lowest point at 325 bison left in the United States. Today, there are around 500,000 bison in the US!

This is an animated digital painting, loosely based off of views in Grand Teton National Park.
