I took this photograph in 2013 at the now demolished Greystone Asylum in New Jersey. Looking back on some of my images, specifically this one, makes me think differently about them in the current world climate. When I took this image I was in a severe depression following the death of my father. Mentally, I wasn't doing well at all. I had contemplated suicide more times than I'd like to admit this particular year. When I took this image, I saw it as hopeful. Now, almost 10 years later, I don't see it that way at all. Have I evolved? Has the world gotten worse? I guess I'll never know. This image represents the struggle and the battle of facing each day over and over again.
