In 2006 Juan Doe was invited to participate in the METAL MAN art book project by legendary 3D artist, DopePope. Metal Man was a character DopePope created when he was a child and rediscovered it as an adult. He isolated the original Metal Man face he drew, updated it and sent it to a variety of artists to create their own version of Metal Man, the only rule was to use the headshot in the art but everything else was up to the artist. The result was this cover of Metal Man after he just finished stabbing Juan Doe in the eye because although he's a gigantic robot, his weapon of choice is a switchblade. This piece also marks the first ever appearance of Juan Doe in a comic and helped to kickstart his 15 year career as a professional comic book artist and a figment of the imagination.
