Inspired by the most impressive amethyst geode I've seen, "Gemesis" explores the geological phenomenon of the crystallization process. "Gemesis" starts with the magmatic mass slowly cooling in the crust. The black elements symbolize the other part of the process being the gas cavities in lava that are needed to form the geode.
"Gemesis" is a part of the ongoing liquid abstraction series, exploring and abstracting natural phenomena and mythology that are often tied together. Greek mythology knows a tale giving the amethyst its color. The beautiful maiden Amethystos rebuffed the god of wine Dionysus. To protect her from Dionysus, the gods turned her into a white quartz. The grieving god poured wine on the gem turning it purple.
