Black Star, painted in 1972, again depicts a very muscular woman in chains as she looks to break free to battle her foes. The work was featured on the paperback cover "The Black Star" by Lin Carter.

The dark tones in this work are separated by the source of light in the center of the painting, which draws the viewer's eye to the woman. This work is a great example of how Frank Frazetta transcended the pinup girl archetypes of Alberto Vargas and Gil Elvgren. Frazetta opted to depict women as strong and powerful beyond the superficial prettiness.

The original work of Black Star is currently on view at the Frazetta Art Museum in East Stroudsburg, PA.
