This is not Indian. I looked it up - it is a Sami folk tale - here is the excerpt from Wikipedia :
The Sámi people (/ˈsɑːmi/; also spelled Sami or Saami) are an indigenous Finno-Ugric people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses large northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula within the Murmansk Oblast of Russia. The Sámi have historically been known in English as Lapps or Laplanders.

So in essence it is a Lapp folk tale :) . Glad you like it - I love folk tales - they have this mix of wisdom , quirkiness and this ability to seamlessly humanize things !
