The hero had discovered a peculiar cave entrance at a tip of an enormous hill or possibly a small mountain. She felt ancient magic calling to her, but the entrance was well hidden, likely to protect against any dangerous intruders.

The dark tunnels led her deeper into the abyss, but as she continued, at the far end she noticed tiny sparkles. The tunnels suddenly led to a grand cave opening- a magnificent crystal cave. It appeared to be magically illuminated, or maybe the light was coming directly from the crystals. The hero closed here eyes and focused her magic senses, stepping closer to the walls.

The soft rumble arose from the ground and kept growing louder. The floor slowly raised and dipped in a rhythmic cycle. The crystals shuttered and spread, revealing a giant eye.

The hero couldn't turn away, her feet felt frozen to the spot, as the purple eye demanded her whole attention. The colossal dragon had awoken from its deep slumber. The momentary flash of fear passed away as the hero realized she wasn't in any danger, the magical beast wasn't menacing even though it was immensely powerful.

She mustered the courage and slowly approached the ancient dragon. She put her hand on the surprisingly warm crystal scales and carefully stroked the smooth surface, avoiding any sharp edges. She couldn't help but smile when the dragon grumbled in a way that she reminded her of content purring. She felt a connection to the creature, even recognition, even though this was their first encounter. The dragon knew more about the hero than she did about herself, as nothing could escape it's knowing crystal gaze.
