South Carolina graphic designer and motion artist Mike Winkelmann, better known as Beeple, has been creating a new artwork and posting it online for the world to enjoy - not missing a single day for the past 5,000 straight days. By doing so, Beeple has taken us on an evolutionary journey, not only of his progression and development as an artist, but of our society as a whole.
Beeple's artwork is rich with not-so-subtle symbolism, making predictions of tomorrow, based on today's truths. He addresses a myriad of social contradictions and absurdities, exploring themes like society's concurrent obsession and fear of technology, desire and resentment towards wealth, and of course the political turbulence of the recent years through a grotesque, hypnotizing, digital style.
Beeple is currently the highest grossing blockchain-based digital artist. In December 2020, Beeple made digital art history raising over $3.5M in a single online exhibition featuring his iconic Everydays which included the sale of a single edition work for $777,777.77.
