The hero reached to hallway just in time and the fortune was on her side once again, as it was a cloudless night. The air was rather cold in these halls of carved moon stone, but the magical cloak protected her from the chill. It was surprisingly easy to see everything the surroundings, even thought there wasn't any notable source of illumination, it was as if the walls emitted, or more likely reflected the soft teal moonlight.
This was the palace of many doors, where each hidden gate could only be unlocked by a specific phase of the moon. Tonight was the rebirth of the waning crescent, the beginning of the moon cycle and it shone magnificently through the ceiling windows.
As the hero laboriously climbed the giant stairs, the moonlight revealed the Crescent Gate in the wall that wasn't there a few moments earlier. The carvings on the walls appeared to move ever so slightly, occasionally revealing spell symbols that probably imbued this place with the magical power. The original creators of this place were long forgotten, but their magic kept the place alive long after they were gone.
As the hero approached the entrance, she heard a gentle, melancholic melody coming from the depths. This was was to be her guide through the maze she was about to enter. Each moon gate's pathway stored it's own unique secrets and guides, there were too many to count and many probably still waiting to be discovered. This was an important test of patience and endurance for any explorer. The beginning was always the most difficult, but at the same time the most exhilarating.
